A big thank you to all members and guests who turned up and played in the Mixed Pairs last Sunday. And those who came to watch . It was a most enjoyable day. Been involved in running the day for last 5 or 6 years and it was one of the best days of bowls and fun which is what its all about. So again thank you all for coming.
On behalf of Keith Walden

Just a reminder and a few final points about our Mixed Pairs bowling and BBQ event this Sunday, the 21st August.
· If you wish to come along please get your names down on the notice on the events notice board at the club as soon as possible.
· If you are unable to get in the club before the weekend please email lewpalmer@sky.com to confirm your attendance.
· Names of those wishing to bowl are required as soon as possible so that we can do the draw beforehand
· Note that the draw will give priority to those who are clearly listed as partners. We will then do our best to match up those who are listed as ‘singles’.
· Whether you wish to play or not please bring any spare sets of bowls with you for those who do not have any.
· Finally please let Lew know if you are able to help out in any way on the day by collecting glasses, serving on the bar, tidying up etc.

The mixed pairs bowling competition takes place at the club on Sunday 21st August. We have a list on the notice board for members and guests who wish to take part on the day but we have more male than female participants. If you know of any females who would like to come down and have a enjoyable days bowling, let Keith Walden know. £6.00 to enter including B.B.Q. with a 12.00 Start.
Alternatively, you can enter their names on the list posted in the club. Local residents are also welcome to come along and join in.

A new air conditioning system has been installed in the cellar by Tom McLaughlin within a week of notifying him that the existing system had packed in & it was getting impossible to keep the beers cool during the recent hot spell.
Tom’s magnificent response avoided what would have been a catastrophe with the County Bowling Match & Beer Fest Events coming up.
The outside fan has also been re-located to the side of the club so our neighbours & Dave’s bedroom are no longer within earshot of the fan.
23/05/2016
Please note that the Captain's Cup competition takes place this Sunday 29th May. Please add your name to sheet on bowls notice board if you wish to take part.
13/05/2016
We have another Sporting Double at the Club this Sunday the 15th May.
Greater Manchester V Birkenhead & District in a Senior County Championship Bowls Fixture . Start at 2:00pm
The Linden Club are pleased to have been chosen to host this top flight match. Some serious bowling will be on show. This season the Altrincham & District LV League, in which we have two teams, has become affiliated with the Greater Manchester Parks CGBA and we can be justifiably proud that our Club has been chosen from the 30 or more greens available for selection.
Swansea V City and United V Bournemouth KO at 3:00pm
The climax of the Premier League season will see both Manchester teams playing their final game knowing that the 4th European Champions League place is at stake. City are two points ahead of United and have a superior goal difference but, in a season that’s been as unpredictable as any, who knows what the outcome will be! BOTH MATCHES WILL BE SHOWN SIMULTANEOUSLY at the club – one on the big screen in the TV room and the other on our new 70” TV in the main room
Food Available throughout the day.
24/11/15 AN UPDATE ON THE CHRISTMAS DRAW AS WE APPROACH THE NIGHT OF THE EVENT ON THE 12th December.
DRAW TICKETS
Although the Standing Order list for tickets is now closed you can still invest money in the draw by filling in the sheet on the main notice board. And you will be able to do so up to a few days before the event. Draw tickets are just 50p each and are available to members and non-members, friends or family. After filling in the sheet please write your name and ticket number/s on the envelope provided, place the money inside, and deposit the sealed envelope in the box by the bar. You don't need to be at the draw night to win. Your prize(s) will be safely stored and you will be notified so that you can collect it/them. If you are unable to get in the club before please email Ian Sharpley at iansharpley@ntlworld.com with details of the amount you wish to commit and he will ensure that your ticket numbers are placed in the draw. We are aiming to spend a record amount on prizes this year although this will largely depend on how successful we are in our final push to sell tickets.
PRIZE DONATIONS
The generosity of members in donating prizes for the Draw is always greatly appreciated. If you wish to contribute this year please add details to the list on the events notice board near the bar and bring the prize in at some time before the night. If you want to specify which of the 3 draws your donation goes to (either the ladies raffle, general raffle or the main draw) you can indicate this on the list.
ATTENDANCE ON THE NIGHT
As you know, for reasons of comfort and safety, the numbers attending the night will be limited. If you wish to attend please buy your ticket as soon as possible. They are £4 if bought in advance and £5 if you pay on the night, although it’s likely that we will have sold them all before then.
SEATING ARRANGEMENTS
In previous years it has proved difficult to accommodate everyone to their satisfaction despite our best efforts. We have either allowed people to reserve tables or just made them available on a ‘first come, first served’ basis but neither arrangement has worked well. This year we will establish a seating plan in advance based, in the main, on the numbers of people in the various parties who are attending. Dave Evans will be making the arrangements so, if you have bought tickets, please email him at david.evans973@gmail.com with numbers in your party etc and he will do his best to fit you all in together. The seating plan will be made clear to all on the night.
24/11/15 - WHISKY TASTING EVENING IN JANUARY - The club is planning a whisky tasting evening would be on Friday, 29th January, just after Burn’s Night which is on Monday 25th January. This is because attendances on a Monday night are generally poor. The evening is intended to be a whisky tasting event with a Burn’s theme rather than a Burn’s Evening. Beyond reducing the price of whiskeys for the evening and perhaps having a haggis supper we're looking for help with ideas & also support on the night. We would have to have some idea of the likely attendance both from the catering & whisky stocks aspect, so if you think this would interest you, please let Ian Sharpley know. Similarly, if you have any ideas for the evening, please contact Ian.
04/11/15 - LINDEN CLUB CHRISTMAS DRAW - The Club's Christmas Draw this year will be held on Saturday the 12th December and will start at 7.30pm. Details are in the poster attached. As in previous years the evening will commence with a welcome from the President and a drink for the ladies. The draw will be carried out in 3 stages culminating in the presentation of star prizes to the lucky winners. There will also be time to converse, socialise, enjoy the buffet and be entertained (expect something different this year!). Also, as well as being presented with the draw prizes you may have won, there will be a chance to win on the general raffle, the free ladies raffle, and the turkey draw. The evening should finish at 11:30. You will see in the attached that we have set an admittance charge of £5 (reduced to £4 if tickets bought in advance) this year and have done so to ensure that we continue to offer the levels of excellence that guests in previous years have become accustomed to. We hope you will understand that we are determined not to compromise on the quality of any aspect of the evening, in particular that of the buffet we provide and, given the rise in costs over the years, would submit that the charge offers great value for money. This event has always been popular with you and your guests and, for reasons of comfort and safety, the Committee have set a maximum attendance limit of 82 on the night. When this number is reached tickets will no longer be available so if you intend to come along we would encourage you to buy them as soon as possible. Tickets will be available from the steward from Friday 6th November. We hope to see you there!
01/11/15 - CHEESE & WINE EVENING. UPDATE. we already have 40+ names attending this popular event, although there is still room for more. Please add your name to the list next to the bar in the club if you will be attending. Test your skills and match the wines to the taste.
On the night we will be announcing the amount of money collected in the 'jar on the bar', with £20 to the winner. The remainder will go to Christies. There will also be a raffle.
Ian Smith
01/11/15 - REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY

25/07/15 - FOOTBALL BUSTER - The coming season's buster starts 2 weeks today so if you haven't already joined it, now is the time to do so. It's run by Keith Walden & there are notices up in the club giving you more details.
To add interest to the competition, we will be putting details & results on the web site to help you follow exactly where your team(s) are up to, something that has been requested in the past. We hope that this will give added interest to a competition that does invaluable work in raising money for club funds. So if you haven't already joined, please do so. You'll help the club and winnings can be quite significant.
Note: The Buster page is currently being prepared and will soon appear in the Members Only section.
20/07/15 - BOWLS FINALS DAY - The club is hosting the LV League KO finals day with 6 teams competing at various times throught the day. We need some help to manage a number of tasks on the day and beforehand and a number of members have already volunteered. Here's a message from Keith Walden, Bowls Secretary:
To all who have offered help to run the Bowls Final day on Sunday August 30th.
I will be holding a meeting on Wednesday July 29th to finalise the day. The main issues will be help with running the bar and helping
with food preparation. Meeting will only take about 1 hour.
Thank you, Keith
13/07/15 - LINDEN LOTTERY MEETING - Reminder. Linden Lottery Meeting this Thursday 16th July at 8pm.
Message from Ian Smith:
We have 42 Linden Club members taking part in the weekly National Lottery Draw, its time for us to make some BIG decisions:
· What is the balance at the bank?
· Do we want to continue with our numbers or change them?
· Shall we stay in the National Lottery or try another lottery like the Health Lottery?
· Shall we do both?
· What else can we do?
These are just some of the questions we will discuss on Thursday, please try to attend. Non lottery members who are thinking of joining are welcome.

Dear All
Just to let you know that Kevin's appearance at the club on Saturday was a great success - the place was rocking as they say. If you missed it - hard luck! However, he may be back judging by the shouts for "more", so look out for a return appearance, maybe next year.
Thanks to all who turned up and had an evening to remember and also all those who organised the event, food & bar. Your support is much appreciated.
Kind regards, Brian
